We are part of Department of Systems Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics and Motor Neuron Center at Columbia University Medical Center.

With a mixed dry and wet lab setup focusing on RNA biology in the mammalian nervous system, we periodically have openings for both computational and experimental Postdocs and graduate students, and technicians, for highly motivated individuals with relevant backgrounds.

If you are interested in joining the Zhang lab, please email Chaolin ( cz2294 [at] columbia [dot] e d u) with required materials described below.

Postdoctoral fellows

[update: 10/29/2014]

Experimental Postdoc: We are currently looking for applicants with a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Molecular Neuroscience. The candidate must have extensive experience in mouse models to study the nervous system function at the cellular and functional levels (using techniques including inducible Cre-lox, histological analysis, etc). Previous experience working with spinal cord/motor neurons in the normal or pathological contexts is highly preferred and background in biochemistry is a plus. Experience with stem cells (mESC/iPS) and exposure to high-throughput techniques such as next-generation sequencing are also preferred but not a must.

Computational Postdoc: We are currently looking for applicants with a Ph.D. degree in Computational or Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences or Physics. The candidate must show strong background in statistical machine learning and algorithm development, as well as extensive experience in analysis of next generation sequencing data. Experience in population genetics and eQTL analysis is also preferred.

Applicants should provide i) a cover letter briefly describing potential projects you are interested in and your previous experience; ii) a curriculum vitae; and iii) contacts of three references.

Graduate students

We are looking for graduate students to rotate or join the lab. Applicants must have been enrolled in the Ph.D. or Ph.D./M.D. program at Columbia University Medical Center, and are interested in RNA Systems Biology. Candidates from either the experimental or the computational side are welcome. Candidates who are currently not enrolled at Columbia should apply to the Systems Biology Specialization within the Integrated Program in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Studies or affiliated PhD programs. See this page for more details.

Technician

We are looking for a senior technician with a track record in Molecular Biology and Biochemical work, and extensive experience in wet lab management. Previous experience working on RNA, and mice and/or mammalian cell culture is highly preferred.
